i know you know everything
this photograph is proof - taking back sunday
Artist/illustrator/maker for A Million City Lights.
i fell apart but got back up again - alibi, 30 seconds to mars
for the past few days i’ve been listening to lots of 30 seconds to mars. watching their video for closer to the edge reminded me of why i love music and going to shows [watch it here]. i am blown away by the connection they make with their fans, and their album this is war isn’t too bad either ;)
for this image i used adobe illustrator to turn the drawing into vectors. first i did live trace then went back and fixed all the lumpy parts (might have been the initial image i used). yes i still have so much more to learn about this program! but i like how this turned out. nice and clean!
you are the earth beneath my feet
you are my gravity
‘cause lately i’ve been tired and uninspired
‘cause lately i’ve been tired, oh so tired
- my american heart
inspired by not the sun by brand new
i’ve fallen in love with Brand New during the last few days. my favorite album of theirs right now is the devil and god are raging inside me, though daisy is growing on me. i love learning about a band, hearing how their sound has evolved, and reading the stories behind their lyrics. anyway….. :)
as you can tell this is very different from the stuff i’ve done in the past; this time i went digital and added color and textures! i wanted to mix it up a bit from the one color lettering on a white background.
i did the lettering on paper then colored it all black and scanned it in. next i went into photoshop and added cement and wood grain backgrounds which i got from design instruct. i created two layers of the lettering, one for the blue and one for the white. i experimented a lot with the blending modes, opacity, and filters and i am happy with how it turned out.
p.s. if you are in LA and you love letters like i do, there will be a show opening next weekend (may 14) at Gallery Nucleus called Illustrated Type. there will be work by Mike Perry, Jessica Hische, Sandra Dieckmann, Darren Booth + many more.
sing it loud,
don’t hold back
one of the best parts of seeing your favorite band live: singing at the top of your lungs to your favorite songs and being with a few hundred (maybe thousand!) other people who are doing the same
can you tell i miss this? *_*
